Membership Criteria
Membership of the Swaziland Institute of Accountants is dependent on a person having satisfied three distinct requirements namely; academic, practical, and a professional evaluation.
AS REGISTERED ACCOUNTANTS (SWAZILAND)
(a) Passing the "Technician" Stage 4 of the AAT Competence Based Education and Training Scheme PLUS three years proven experience of accounting work.
(b) Passing the new B.Com (Accounting) Degree from UNISWA plus three years proven experience of accounting work.
(c) Holders of B.Com or B.Acc degrees from certain Universities (provided there were three years of accounting courses in their degree) PLUS three years proven accounting experience.
(d) Members of ICSA (Institute Chartered Secretaries & Administrators) or CIPFA (Certified Institute for Public Finance & Accounting) in good standing. (These professional qualifications carry with them assurance of proven experience).
ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE SWAZI CITIZENS OR HOLDERS OF VALID RESIDENCE PERMITS AND MUST BE RESIDENT IN SWAZILAND AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.
AS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS (SWAZILAND)
(a) Passing the Final (Professional Level) of ACCA PLUS 5 years as Articled Clerck under an approved Accounting Training contract. Reduced to three years if applicant is also the holder of a UNIVERSITY degree in accounting.
(b) Membership in good standing of another Institute or Association of Chartered of Certified Accountants (PROVIDED that body is a member of IFAC). Applicants must be Swazi citizens or holders of valid residence permit and be resident in Swaziland at the time of application.
(c) Members admitted under (A and B) above, who wish to obtain Audit Practicing Certificates, must also pass the SIA "Conversion" examination relevant to Swazi Taxation, Company Law, Insolvency and the Administration of Estates.
IF NOT SWAZI CITIZENS, THEY MUST NORMALLY RESIDE IN SWAZILAND FOR AT LEAST 8 MONTHS IN EACH YEAR OF VALIDITY OF THEIR RESIDENCE PERMITS.
Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) was introduced in 2005. All members must achieve 120 hours of CPD over a three year period. The Institute assists in this regard
